read before buying phone cardsTrue, phone card is the most economical way of making long distance calls. This being a prepaid calling plan it is free from all hidden costs. But, with all this, it is always advisable to exercise some amount of caution before buying a calling card.

Prepaid tariff will not have any connectivity charges. In fact this is what differentiates a phone card from a payphone calling plan. But, there are some calling companies who charge some amount towards connectivity charges. Ensure that no such charges are levied in a phone card.

Those who make regular calls to a particular destination like for example India, would always buy the calling card of that particular country. Before buying the calling plan the buyer should ensure that the plan is actually meant for calling particular country or destination. Buying a calling plan for some other destination would defeat the very purpose of buying the dedicated calling card. Some calling plans are available for calling the particular zone which may cover some of the neighboring counties also. For example those who buy India calling cards may also be able to call China or Nepal etc. Such tariffs are also beneficial; but see the tariff structure before buying.

The important point to be understood is the rounding. Some calling companies round off the tariff on minute basis. But, this may not be economical because a person who calls for 2 minutes and 10 seconds will have to pay for 3 minutes. Now many calling companies are coming up with plans for payment on the basis of seconds which would be most advantageous. Some companies offer rounding based on the duration of calls. Such rounding would also be economical for the caller.
